Position: M.A.C. Communications Manager

When I was growing up I wanted to be...

A plastic surgeon, a vet or an entertainment lawyer living in NYC!

My favourite thing about working for ELC is...

The people – they make it feel like play rather than work!

The best beauty tip I ever received was...

You can never invest too much in taking care of your skin.

My favourite product is...

MAC Fluidline eyeliner

How did you begin your career at ELC?

I began at ELC in 2007 in the same role that I am in now.  The MAC brand and ELC organization has changed a lot since then but has always been a wonderful place to work.

Why did you decide to work at ELC?

I have been a MAC addict since I was about 17 – I even used to keep the boxes that the product came in and display them in my room!  When I heard about the opportunity to work for MAC I jumped at it.  I was so besotted with the role that I wasn’t sure what would happen if I didn’t get it!!  I met the MAC team and knew this was where I wanted to work.  I had also heard that ELC was a wonderful place to work; that they really cared about their people and that everyone was friendly.  I have found this to be true – everyone genuinely likes each other and there are lots of smiles in the office.

What has been your most memorable experience?

Everything is memorable as no day is the same in the beauty industry.  It is such a fast paced, ever-changing environment that you can never rest on your laurels.  However, if I were to choose one experience it would have to be Fashion Week.  Each year it nearly kills me but is such a collaborative project that we all love seeing the hard work come to life in one of our favourite weeks of the year!

What's the best part about your job?

The people I get to work with.  The MAC girls are amazing!! Our MAC team is like a sisterhood – we’re a very tight supportive group.  I also get to work with wonderfully creative MAC Artists – I’m not a makeup artist so seeing what they do on a daily basis is very inspiring!! I also love working with creatives in the industry: media, freelance artists, fashion designers, performers, stylists, photographers and models.

In my words “High Touch” culture means...

To me ‘high touch’ means working strongly together and building collaborative relationships on all levels so we can all strive for the vision that is going to make us and the company successful.

The opportunities, events or projects above and beyond my normal day to day job at Estee Lauder Companies have been...

ELC invest in training and development so I have had awesome opportunities for developing my skills.

Position: M.A.C. Brand General Manager

When I was growing up I wanted to be...

A singer/dancer – unfortunately for the New Zealand entertainment industry, it wasn’t meant to be.

My favourite thing about working for ELC is...

There are many, but definitely one worth mentioning is that ELC offers a half day off every second month for rest and relaxation!!

The best beauty tip I ever received was...

Use products with an SPF factor. Skin transplants are not readily available these days, so treat what you have like gold, protect it and cherish it!

My favourite product is...

I have two - M.A.C Prep & Prime Highlighter Pen – every woman in my life has one. New mothers and party animals alike can conceal a sleepless night in a matter of seconds. Dark circles be gone! My other is a M.A.C lipstick called Ruby Woo – a M.A.C classic and a colour you can never grow out of.

How did you begin your career at ELC?

As a fixed term administrator…I was only supposed to be with M.A.C for 9 months. That was 7 years ago.

Why did you decide to work at ELC?

The incredible brands and products!

What has been your most memorable experience?

There is NEVER a dull moment at M.A.C so pinpointing one memory is difficult. One standout thought was spending the day working on a M.A.C counter at Bloomingdales in New York when Beyonce’s mum visited the counter – my most cherished one degree of separation moment.

What's the best part about your job?

The people, M.A.C attracts passionate and creative people – there’s nothing more motivating and inspiring then spending your day with people that are passionate about what they do.

In my words “High Touch” culture means...

Ultimately, it’s a culture that is breed from respect. Respecting that every human being is an individual whether it be a customer in store or an team member in the Estee Lauder Companies Head Office.
A high touch culture acknowledges and respects that everyone is different – Instore, artists deliver the most high touch experience by acknowledging and respecting that every single customer has a different skin type, skin colour, level of makeup experience and makes suggestions and offers advice to suit. In the ELC office, a high touch culture acknowledges and respects that every team member has different strengths and areas of opportunities, thinks differently and regardless of title or position is provided an opportunity to be developed.

The opportunities, events or projects above and beyond my normal day to day job at Estee Lauder Companies have been...

There is no such thing as a normal day!

I liked the idea that it was a family run company
