There is always something to keep you busy, whether it is serving customers utilising our high touch philosophy, educating customers on products, techniques and skin care regimes, merchandising products, on counter coaching/mentoring and or administration activities.

Move Over! - Make a big impression with a career as a make-up artist

Estee Lauder Companies offers numerous ways to become a Makeup Artist.  Our brands the have Makeup Artistry positions are Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, M.A.C.

Bobbi Brown and M.A.C. provide opportunities for industry trained and qualified Makeup Artist to join as Casuals, Part Timers, and Full Timers.  For these roles you must be qualified in Makeup Artistry through an external training provider.

It is an expectation that Makeup Artists are required to harness their inner creative to create a new look based on the current colour collections and trends.  The main responsibility a Makeup Artist has is to educate customers on products and applications demonstrating correct application techniques.

Above and beyond the retail aspect of their roles, select Makeup Artists in Bobbi Brown and M.A.C. also participate in Public Relations events such as Fashion Week.

The pinnacle of the Makeup Artists career in Bobbi Brown and M.A.C. is to become a Senior Artist for NZ.  The Senior Artist represents the brand on an international level; as such the role requires a large quantity of travel per year.  Responsibilities include facilitating and directing fashion shows at NZ fashion week and at fashion events throughout the year, conducting media interviews and creating individual make up for magazine and TV media shoots.  It is essential that the Senior Artist build and develop key internal relationships with Makeup Artists through training workings which focus on the development of the artist makeup artistry ability.  External relationships existing and new associations with key industry figures and sponsored artists need to be nurtured through the management and facilitation of Master classes.

For the aspiring or establishing Makeup Artist we also offer artistry opportunities in Estee Lauder.  These positions require a minimum of three years experience preferably gained in theatre, TV, magazine, film or cosmetic industry.  Estee Lauder Makeup Artist is part of the travelling team and travel to various department stores and pharmacies.

Moving Up – Managing a counter or leading your team

The best way to become an Assistant Manager/Counter/Retail/Store Manager is to start out as retail employee.  Starting your career in retail customer service role, means that you intuitively understand the culture of the brand and recognise the importance of providing the team with a clear framework of strategic priorities to achieve counter goals.

However, from time to time we do need to look outside our business to engage new talent.  New talent bring fresh ideas and different way at looking at problems.  We prefer our Retails Managers to have the following skills:

  • 3 -5 years of Retail Experience
  • 2 years of previous Management Experience
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Previous experience coaching and developing team members

At Estee Lauder Companies we consider our Managers to be “Leaders” in every sense of the word.  Our Retail Leaders are responsible for the total operation of their assigned store or counter and leads their team in customer service, sales, achievement and success.  The Retail leader is also accountable for the development and progression of their team including the Assistant Manager.  It is essential to the success of this role, that the Leader be capable of developing strong working relationships with those around them and with their team in head office.
